Board Members

ISPI San Diego Board meetings are open to all members, and we invite you to attend to learn more about chapter activities and ways you can get involved. Monthly board meetings are held on Monday evenings. There are no board meetings in November or December, as this time period is set aside for transition meetings between incoming and outgoing officers. Here is a description of our board positions.

Phillip Tanzilo, President

ptPhillip has an extensive background in the fields of Learning and Performance Improvement. His experience has found him making substantative contributions as a  Trainer, Consultant, Strategist, and Instructional Designer. His competencies include Innovation, Instructional Design, Operations,  Coaching, Profit and Loss, Strategic Planning, Program/Project Management, to name a few. Phillip has also served as President of ASTD  in 2006 and as National Chapter Advisor from 2007-2010.


Kathleen Borsos-Wooley, Past-President

Kathleen Borsos-Wooley has been a resident of San Diego for 34 years. Her background and undergraduate degree are in music performance. She  completed her Masters in Educational Technology while being employed full-time at San Diego State University in the College of Education, School of Teacher Education.

Kathleen has been working in higher education, and specifically the adult training arena, for much of the last 20 years. Kathleen has utilized her instructional design and performance technology skills and knowledge in the School of Teacher Education by implementing technologies to improve admission and retention facets of credential and graduate programs. In addition, she has designed several websites and manages the departmental website. Using instructional design methodologies and a content delivery and management system, she also provides consultation and support to faculty for developing blended and online training courses. She recently implemented online virtual advising sessions for the credential advisor. Always remembering to "keep the end in mind", she is continually seeking learning and process improvement in the workplace.

Kathleen has been involved in ISPI for approximately seven years and had the good fortune to attend the international conferences in Vancouver B.C (2005) and Dallas, Texas (2006.) Both were awesome!


Christine Young, VP Administration

cyChristine Young moved from Pennsylvania to California in 2002. Chris has been an instructional designer and trainer in diverse industries such as law, insurance, corporate, military contractor, pharmaceutical and medical technology. She was also was a paralegal for twenty years. Chris has a Bachelors degree in Psychology and Education from Bucknell University.


 

Sean Woodard, VP Finance

swSean Woodard's work experience reaches across an array of disciplines, fields, and industries. He has a background in instructional design, performance technology, banking, and occupational health and safety, and through his work in many organizations, he has become familiar with a range of corporate cultures and strategies. Sean's expertise is in the area of organizational effectiveness, including process redesign, individual and team performance improvement, and change management, with a focus on aligning these with the strategic and financial goals of an organization. Sean is a Ph.D. candidate and received a master of science, both in instructional systems technology, from Indiana University-Bloomington. He earned a bachelor of science in industrial hygiene and safety from Saint Augustine's College and is a Distinguished Honor Graduate of the United States Army Finance Corps.


Mike Andrews, VP Membership

maMike Andrews is a native San Diegan and instructional designer with a background in information systems, sales, and marketing. Mike has previously worked with multiple software companies and a Department of Defense Navy contractor. His current specialties include designing online technical training (software and hardware), performance analysis, and training needs assessment. Mike is also pursuing his Masters degree in Educational Technology at SDSU.


Shannon McKanna, VP Technology

Shannon McKanna has lived in San Diego since 1995 and employed in the training field since 2000. In 2003, she earned her Masters in Educational Technology from SDSU. Shannon has created web and classroom-based training materials for Ratheon, InnovaSystems, Denny’s, Bank of America, Sun Microsystems, K12, Dollar General and Oracle. Shannon has a Bachelor of Arts in Music Humanities from UCSD.




Jeanne Strayer, CPT, VP Programs

smJeanne Strayer holds an M.A. in Educational Technology from San Diego State University, a BA in Linguistics from University of California at Santa Cruz, and a Certified Performance Technologist (CPT) Certification from ISPI.  Jeanne has worked in the training field for over 20 years helping organizations improve their performance.  She has been the Director of Training and Performance Design of several companies (Century 21 International, Help-U-Sell Real Estate) and is currently the principal of her own consulting company.  She specializes in sales training and franchise operations, although her clients have included companies in the biotech, manufacturing, service and financial industries.  Jeanne enjoys hiking with her family in her spare time, visiting National Parks, and participates in martial arts, recently receiving her black belt in Tang Soo do.  Jeanne is a native Californian and lives in Carlsbad, CA.
